Club Meeting - May 25, 2013
This is a reminder that we have two great Club events coming on Saturday, May 25, 2013. at High Point Lake. Directions to the meeting site are below. Here is the schedule.
10:00 a.m.. Members gather at the shelter for a brief business meeting.
10:30 a.m. Jim Spivey, ONSD Special Events Chair, will give last minute instructions and start the seeded hunt. In addition to a large number of prizes, a crisp $100.00 bill will go to the lucky winner.
11:45 a.m. The seeded hunt will end and prizes awarded to those who find the marked tokens.
1200 noon. Members and their families will gather at the shelter for a picnic and covered dish luncheon. The Club will provide drinks, paper and plastic items. The Club will also order enough delicious fried chicken for about 50 people.. Members are encouraged to bring their families, Covered dishes will be most welcome.
Directions to the ONSD Cookout and Hunt
From Greensboro:
Follow Wendover Ave until it ends at Hwy 68 Eastchester Dr at a traffic light. Go straight across on to Skeet Club Rd and follow Skeet Club Rd for two miles. At the Oak Hollow Lake bridge take a left turn on to Waterview Rd and follow Waterview Rd 1.5 miles until it ends at the Park. Go straight ahead to shelter #5
From High Point you have several ways:
- Main St north and turn onto Skeet Club Rd. Follow for 3.5 miles turn right on Waterview Rd and follow until it ends at the park.
- Johnson St north and turn right onto Old Mill Road. Go 1 mile to stop sign. Turn right on Waterview. Follow to end at park.
- Eastchester Dr north to Skeet Club Rd turn left and follow for 2 miles and turn left onto Waterview Rd and follow until it ends at the park.
From Winston Salem:
Take Hwy 311 Bypass toward High Point and exit at Johnson Street. Turn left on Johnson Street go 1 mile to light. Turn right on Old Mill Rd. Go 1 mile to stop sign. Turn right on Waterview. Follow to end at park.
From Salisbury Lexington and Thomasville:
Take I-85 Business and exit Hwy 68 North towards the airport. Follow Hwy 68 north and it becomes Westchester Dr then when you cross Main St it will become Eastchester Dr. Follow Eastchester Dr several miles to the intersection at Skeet Club Rd. Turn left onto Skeet Club Rd and go 2 miles and turn left onto Waterview Rd and follow until it ends at the park. Go straight ahead to shelter #5.
From Raleigh and Burlington:
Take I-85 South toward Charlotte to exit #113C – Hwy 311 North & I-74 Winston. Follow this road and take the Johnson Street exit. Turn right onto Johnson Street. Go 1 mile to light at Old Mill Road. Turn right go 1 mile to stop sign at Waterview. Turn right and follow to the end at the park.

Club Meeting - March 30, 2013
The March 30th club meeting will be held at our regular meeting place at 9:00 AM.
Don't forget to use your searching skills for the ONSD Annual Auction.
There's no end of things you could bring to the auction. Detecting equipment, gardening equipment, sports equipment, silver coins, treasure books, tools, Baked goods, ect. Please remember your club dues.
The "Judges Choice" award competition has been extended until the March 30 meeting because of bad weather. Bring your best finds for December, January, February and March. A beautiful Mexican Silver Dollar will be awarded by the Judges for best find.
Keep in mind the new Randy Woolbright Community Service Award. A "gold" detector pin and certificate will be presented to members who find and return valuable items to their owners.
Club Meeting - February 23, 2013
On February 23, 2013, the Club will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 9:00 am at a new location, East Coast Wings and Grill, 1579-B New Garden Road in Greensboro.
Two important events will take place.
- Elections of Officers for 2013 will be held
- Payment of dues for the year 2013 will be collected
This new site will allow the club to once again hold our 50-50 raffle, so bring a few extra dollar bills.
Club Meeting & Christmas Party - December 15, 2012

Club members will meet in the Community Room of the Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch Library located at 1420 Price Park Road in Greensboro. The Christmas Party will feature refreshments and a fun gift exchange.
There will also be a presentation by the well-known Graham Strickland, local author of The Last To Die: A Story of War in the Carolinas and Virginia. The Club will also present three Golden Detector Awards. The certificates and pins will go to Jerry Gilliam, Jody Sanders, and Jeffrey Blackburn for their efforts in each locating and returning a valuable item to its' owner.
We'll have a great Holiday meeting. Two requests:
Please bring a wrapped, inexpensive, fun gift for our gift exchange.
If convenient, bring a treat or two from home to add to the donuts and cider refreshments.

Mayodan Library Artifacts Exhibit Continuing Till Further Notice
To all Historians,
The Mayodan Library has asked me to set up an artifacts exhibit of Madison area Homesites (18th-19th century) similar to my May exhibit earlier at the Reidsville, NC downtown library.
The cases of relics will consist of items from:
- "Valley Field Plantation" (1783)
- "Valley Home" (1795) of William Deering
- "Baughn family" homesite (19th century)
- Moyer Road cabin site (19th century)
- Crowder Homesite (19th century) off NC Highway 704
The case will include military relics from the French & Indian War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. I hope everyone can stop in to view it during its display continuing till further notice. The library is located at 101 North 10th Avenue in Mayodan, North Carolina. Its hours are Mon - 10-8, Wed - 10-6, and Fri - 10-6.

Occasionally, a club meeting will be held in the field at a hunt site prior to the start time.
Be sure to check the Calendar of Events page for the latest information and location map.
Members will be emailed the location and address of secret hunt sites several days prior to the event. Open site hunts will be displayed on the web page with a location map and weather forcast box.
Guests are welcome to attend the meetings and observe the hunts, but must be a current club member to participate.
