Preface to the Bylaws
 
The Old North State Detectorists (ONSD) is an organization whose purpose is to share the pleasure of metal detecting with like-minded people. Our goals are to form friendships, promote the hobby, educate the public, respect private property, support professional archeologists and historians, protect national treasures, provide community service, and have fun.

Article 1: Membership:

Membership applications will be accepted from any person interested in metal detecting providing the person pledges to abide by the ONSD Code of Ethics.

Article 2: Officers:

ONSD officers will be President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Sergeant-At-Arms. Officers will be elected by the membership for one-year terms by a simple majority of those voting at a regularly scheduled January meeting. Officers may serve more than one term. The officers will be known collectively as the ONSD Executive Committee.

Article 3: Duties of Officers:

The President shall preside over all meetings of ONSD, approve all checks made out by the Treasurer, and represent the club.

The Vice President shall preside at meetings in the absence of the President.

The Secretary will take minutes, maintain a record of club activities, and an up-to-date membership roster.

The Treasurer will be responsible for all ONSD funds and be audited each January by a three-member committee appointed by the President.

The Sergeant-At-Arms shall take roll at each meeting and maintain order.

Article 4: Standing Committees:

Standing committees will be appointed by the president to run various club activities.

Article 5: Amendments:

Any club member may propose an amendment to the By-Laws. The presenter of the amendment is required to submit it to the ONSD president in-writing or by electronic means no less than two weeks before the next regularly scheduled meeting. The president will forward it to the Executive Committee for discussion and vote. A two-thirds vote of the Executive Committee is required for a proposal to proceed to the membership for a vote. The proposal will be distributed electronically. A vote of two-thirds of the members present at the next regularly scheduled meeting is required for adoption. Internet voting is allowed for members who are unable to attend the meeting.

Article 6: Dues:

Membership dues will be $20.00 for an individual and $30.00 for a family, beginning with the January meeting of each year and paid no later than the February meeting. Those not paying club dues will be dropped from the club roster, e-mail list, and not be allowed to participate in any club functions or hunts until such dues are paid. Dues of members joining after June 2 will be half-price.

Article 7: Liability Release:

Each member is required to fill out the information and liability release form upon paying dues. This form will be signed jointly by the member and the ONSD Vice-President. To help avoid potentially troublesome situations, ONSD members are strongly encouraged to form teams of two or more when responding to request to find lost items.

Article 8: Affiliation:

The ONSD will be a member of the Federation of Metal Detector and Archaeological Clubs. Yearly membership dues in FMDAC are voluntary.
